About FreezeDryerHQ

FreezeDryerHQ compares 44 home freeze dryers from 22 brands on tray capacity, batch weight, pump type, cycle time and the running costs that rarely appear in the sales copy.

A purchase that deserves more scrutiny

A home freeze dryer is a several-thousand-dollar appliance that runs for twenty to forty hours per batch, needs a vacuum pump maintained alongside it, and lives somewhere you can tolerate the noise. It is closer to buying a small piece of industrial equipment than a kitchen gadget, and it is sold almost entirely through manufacturer storefronts where nothing is shown side by side. That is the gap this site fills.

What we track, and why the pump matters

Tray count and area, batch weight, shelf and chamber dimensions, power draw and cycle time come from each manufacturer's published specifications for the specific size class.

We treat the vacuum pump as its own comparable field rather than an accessory. Oil pumps and oil-free pumps differ in purchase price, maintenance burden, noise and how long they last, and the pairing is frequently the difference between two machines that otherwise look identical on a spec sheet.

Independence

Some links here may earn a commission at no cost to you. No manufacturer pays for placement, for a rating, or to have a criticism removed. This category is dominated by direct-to-consumer sellers, and we list machines on their merits whether or not there is any commercial relationship — including where there is none at all.

What two people can and cannot verify

Two people maintain FreezeDryerHQ. Nobody here has taken all 44 of these machines through a forty-hour cycle — that would be months of continuous pump time and several thousand dollars of trays — so nothing on this site is offered as a test result. The specifications are the manufacturers' own for each size class.

The blanks are the interesting part. 23 of 44 machines publish no power draw and 27 state no typical cycle time, which between them are exactly what you need to work out running cost. Those fields stay empty rather than estimated. What owners report about pump life, real batch weights and noise comes from public owner discussion, and none of these listings is paid placement.
